According to an online poll released today, the health issue that women are most worried about is their weight.

One in four of the 1000 women polled said weight was their biggest health worry, with half of women in their 20s, 30s and 40s saying they were more concerned about it than anything else.

I don’t know a single women who doesn’t think about their weight, especially at this time of year, just after all the Christmas and New Year indulgence, but I must say that I’m surprised at these statistics!

Health Expert, Doctor Sarah Jarvis, points out that many women simply don’t have time to deal to their weight issues: "Women are bombarded with images of apparently perfect bodies, when they don't even have enough time to sit down and catch their breath".

As a busy working mum of two young children, I can certainly identify with this.  But it’s not all ‘doom and gloom’!  There is a way around it.  Losing weight isn’t such a difficult result to achieve, it’s having the will power to stick with it that’s the hard part and the recurring stumbling block to our good intentions.  We all know the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods and the fact is, if we’re really honest, we could all spare at least fifteen minutes per day to exercise.  So it’s not just about healthy eating and exercise, it’s mostly about what the little demon inside our mind is tempting and distracting us with!  It calls to us every day: “Eat the biscuits, go on just one, it won’t do any harm, have a chocolate bar with your coffee, start the diet tomorrow, just relax and watch TV”.  I think we’ve all been there haven’t we? But we can ignore it and even change what it says to us.

Despite all the barriers that we create to talk ourselves out of sticking with our weight loss goals, we all possess the inner strength to successfully lose weight, we just need to tap into that strength.  So why worry so much about a health issue that we can actually solve ourselves?  All we need is a little motivation and will power, coupled with healthy eating and exercise and we'll be well on our way.

Let's go for it girls!
